As a result of the verdict, Dan Hughes, Fullerton's Chief of Police, has the following comment:
"We respect the jury's verdict, and appreciate the consideration the jury gave to the evidence. We understand that there may be a wide variety of reactions to the verdict and encourage anybody who wishes to express their feelings to do so respectfully.
Over the course of the past two and a half years the City of Fullerton Police Department has taken significant steps to make it the best department possible. As Fullerton’s new Police Chief, I will make sure those efforts continue so that our police department serves the community with honor, integrity and professionalism."

"Today, the jury has spoken and we respect the verdict. I understand and appreciate how difficult this has been for the Thomas family. We appreciate not everyone may agree with the jury's verdict. But we trust that the community will respect the verdict and the juror’s decisions.
Over the course of the past two and a half years the City of Fullerton has taken the initiative to implement reforms to our police department so it can provide the best possible service to our community. As Fullerton’s new Mayor, I will continue to make certain those efforts continue."
April 22, 2013The Federal Court trial in the case of Veth Mam vs. City of Fullerton, et al., USDC Case Number SACV11-1242-JST, concluded today in the courtroom of Judge Josephine Staton Tucker. The jury of eight returned with a unanimous verdict in favor of the three Fullerton Police Officers who remained as defendants in the case. The jury found that there was no violation of the plaintiff's First and Fourth Amendment Rights and further that the plaintiff was not maliciously prosecuted for assaulting and battering one of the defendant officers.
Prior to the start of the trial, the court had dismissed other claims against the City of Fullerton and other defendants.
January 31, 2013The City of Fullerton is happy to announce the hiring of a new Chief of Police. During the January 15, City Council meeting, Captain Dan Hughes was appointed Chief of Police in a unanimous 5-0 vote. Hughes had been the Acting-Chief the past year.
July 12, 2012The Fullerton Police Department has released the name of the bicyclist killed in yesterday's hit and run collision that occurred at around 10:21am, at Bastanchury Rd and Morelia Street, in the City of Fullerton.
According to Sergeant Jeff Stuart, the cyclist has been identified as Richard Douglas Paine, 41 years of age, of La Habra.
"While we are not at a point to make a determination as to who was at fault, our preliminary investigation suggests that the collision occurred as a result of Paine riding his bicycle into the path of oncoming traffic. Although we can't confirm who had the right of way at this time, our investigation thus far, indicates that vehicular traffic was moving at reasonable speeds for this section of the road," Stuart said.
The hit and run suspect vehicle, described as a small black car, with side or front collision damage, and is still outstanding. Police are asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle and driver. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Fullerton Police Department Accident investigators at (714) 738-6812 or (714) 738-6813.

The Fullerton Police Department is confirming that Officer Manuel Ramos is no longer employed by the City of Fullerton.
"While we can not comment as to the specifics of any personnel matter, I can confirm that Officer Ramos is no longer an employee of the Fullerton Police Department, effective July 3, 2012," said Acting Chief Dan Hughes.
Hughes has declined to discuss any proposed discipline or the findings of an internal investigation.
The status of the other officers involved in this incident remains unchanged.
June 12, 2012This release is a follow-up on the press release put out yesterday, June 11, 2012, regarding critical missing adult Aaron Gregory. According to Sergeant Jeff Stuart of the Fullerton Police Department, Gregory was located earlier this afternoon and was returned home in good condition. It is unknown at this time, why Gregory, who suffers from a brain injury and seizures, left the residence.

March 21, 2012On 03-15-12, at approximately 0948 hours, a female was walking in the area of Calle Don Juan north of Las Palmas Street in the city of Fullerton. The male suspect approached her from behind and he grabbed her buttocks and he then grabbed her groin.

March 13, 2012Acting Fullerton Police Chief Dan Hughes said this morning (Tuesday) he is pleased the District Attorney's filing of misdemeanor charges against a former officer for destruction of a Police Department Digital Recorder.
"The Fullerton Police Department initiated this investigation almost one year ago, completed the investigation, and submitted our findings to the District Attorney’s office seeking charges," Hughes said.

Fullerton City Manager Joe Felz today (Feb. 3) announced that Michael F. Sellers has informed the city that he will retire from his position as chief of the Fullerton Police Department. The retirement will be effective Feb. 18.

A 72-year-old Fullerton woman who had been missing since Tuesday (Jan. 31) morning has been found dead, the victim of an apparent suicide. Hongyuan Li had been missing since yesterday (Jan 31) morning. This afternoon, police cancelled the search after Li was found dead several blocks away. It is an apparent suicide.
