 Lowdown on the Uproar: Leo's Electric Basses
When the telecaster, Fender's first solidbody electric, proved to be a success, Leo Fender turned his attention towards a fully electric bass guitar. He had the finished product-- the Precision Bass-- in hand in 1951. Music was never the same.

Melancholy Menagerie: A Gaze Into the World of Big Eyes
Opening reception: Saturday, May 3, 2014

$10 admission/Free for Museum members
See these Big Eyes characters that have become iconic after nearly 4 decades. Decorative consumer art flourished in the 1960s as artists cranked out artworks with adorable characters, bright-eyed and innocent yet lonely, melancholy, and maybe even menacing. This exhibit will delve into the idea of why the Big Eyes character was so popular in the 60s and why it's had a resurgence in contemporary art.

    Bring your Blythe Dolls and accessories for show and tell with other doll enthusiasts! Tea and light refreshments will be served.   

    Thrift Shop Guerilla Art

    Bring in your thrift shop painting, print, or poster and transform it into kitschy masterpiece. Learn painting techniques and have fun creating one-of-a-kind treasure.

    Celebrate the closing day of Melancholy Menagerie with a panel discussion on the amazing resurgence of this popular art form.
