Council Member Jan M. Flory was re-elected to the Fullerton City Council in November 2012, after a 10-year absence from the council. She previously served on the Fullerton City Council from October 1994 through December 2002. She was the city's Mayor in 1998-99, and Mayor Pro Tem in 1997-98 and 2001-02.
Council Member Flory serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Orange County Vector Control District and in January 2014, was appointed as a Board of Director for the Orange County Water District. She also serves on the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency Board, a role she previously served in years earlier.
Previously, Council Member Flory served the citizens of Fullerton through a four-year stint as an Orange County Water District board member from 1998 to 2002. She also served on the City’s Planning and Community Services commissions and with the Sister City Association.
Council Member Flory is a family law attorney and has maintained her law office in Fullerton since 1986. She claims that 28 years of working with families in distress has prepared her for being on the City Council. She was admitted to the practice of law in 1986 by both the California State Bar and the U.S. Court of Appeals. She is currently a member of the Orange County and North Orange County Bar associations, as well as the Family Law Section of the Orange County Bar. She was a licensed real estate broker for 15 years prior to becoming a lawyer, and she and her husband, Bill, owned and managed a new home sales business in Fullerton for more than 12 years.
Council Member Flory was born in New Zealand, and was brought to this country by her Kiwi mother when she was six months old to rejoin her U.S. Marine father. She grew up in Garden Grove where she still has several friends that she went to kindergarten with.
Council Member Flory and her husband Bill have been married for 48 years. They and their three-year-old twins, Mike and Rob, moved to Fullerton in 1970. All four of them are graduates of CSUF. Council Member Flory completed her education at Western State University College of Law where she earned a juris doctorate in 1986.
Council Member Flory sons followed in her footsteps and both became attorneys. Mike works for the Orange County District Attorney while Rob works for the Orange County Public Defender.
Council Member Flory and her husband have three grandchildren who live close by allowing them to have close contact with the little ones.
