Fullerton Planning Forum
The City of Fullerton is currently conducting a study to investigate the feasibility of a dedicated public transit line between the Downtown’s Fullerton Transportation Center (FTC) and East Fullerton. The study will investigate potential modes of transit, as well as the land use and population growth that could complement a transit investment. The study is intended to support a vision of creating a quality public transit connection between the heart of the City and the area surrounding California State University Fullerton; and to do so in a manner that encourages private investment, accommodates population growth, maximizes sustainable operations and enhances the City’s quality of life.
The study area is primarily focused on a 1/4 mile distance around Chapman and Commonwealth Avenues, which are the two main arterials connecting Downtown and East Fullerton. A 1/4 mile has been used because it is considered a convenient “walk-able” distance for an average person.
The actually alignment of the transit route will be considered as part of the study, and will need to take into consideration numerous factors. Additionally, the study will consider the types of transit that are most appropriate for the community and Fullerton’s growth. The transit modes to be studied are expected to include light rail, street car/trolley and bus rapid transit.
The study is intended to produce:
1. A Feasibility Analysis 2. A Financing Strategy 3. An Implementation Program
Funding for the study is primarily through a grant from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is the recipient of the grant funds, on behalf of the City of Fullerton. Please visit www.scag.ca.gov for more information on SCAG.

The City of Fullerton has released the date of a College Connector Study community meeting, which will be held at the following day, time and place:

This meeting will provide an overview of the study, including objectives, transit concepts, terminology, and basic transportation technologies. Community attendance and participation is requested and encouraged.

February 6, 2013:
The City of Fullerton staff is forming a Steering Committee to help guide and inform the consultant during the analysis. The Steering Committee will be comprised of residents, business owners, educational institutions, and other community members. Applications for the Steering Committee are now available.
An informational meeting for those interested in serving on the Steering Committee will be held at 6:30 PM on February 13, 2013 at the City’s new Community Center, 340 W. Commonwealth Avenue. Interested persons should submit complete applications by Thursday, February 21, 2013.
February 5, 2013:
City Council was scheduled to receive a presentation on the College Connector Study during their February 5, 2013 study session agenda. The presentation was intended to introduce the new Council to the study, and obtain feedback related to Steering Committee selection. While the introductory presentation was not provided to the City Council, due to time constraints, the Council did select two members to assist in the review of Steering Committee applications. The members are Mayor Pro Tem Chaffee and Council Member Flory.
