|Fullerton, Ca – A major road construction project will soon be underway to upgrade the city's water main system and streets as part of a concerted effort to improve the city’s infrastructure.|
The recently approved budget included amendments totaling $11,149,845 for fiscal year 2014-15 including $10.1 million for capital improvement projects.
Fullerton Mayor, Doug Chaffee, remarked, "I am pleased with Council’s approval of the 2014-15 budget. It demonstrates to our citizens that we are serious about improving our infrastructure, especially in regards to street repairs and water delivery."
The Berkeley Avenue Project will reconstruct pavement, from east of Lemon Street to Chapman Ave and on Hornet Way, Dorothy Lane, and Longview Drive.
The project also includes water main upgrade on Berkeley Ave and Hornet Way. Construction will begin approximately end of June with street closures taking place after July 7, 2014. Construction is expected to be completed within 14 weeks. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Berkeley Ave between Lemon Street and Chapman Ave will be closed during construction. Hornet Way, Dorothy Lane, and Longview Drive will be closed to through traffic with access for residents only. Not all streets will be closed during the entire 14 week duration. The project will be done in phases with street closures during certain phases of construction. City officials are asking drivers to observe traffic advisory signs and detour signs that will be updated to reflect construction phases.
The Berkeley project construction cost is approximately $1,412,140 and
is financed with Measure M, Gas Tax and Successor Agency funds.
