|Fullerton, CA - Caribbean rhythms will float through Downtown Fullerton on Thursday, May 16, when the group "Upstream" performs reggae and calypso music at the popular outdoor Fullerton Market.|
The popular market, now in its 22nd year of operation, is open from 4-8:30 p.m., and offers farm-fresh produce, flowers, fresh-baked breads, arts and crafts, food vendors, and live entertainment.
The market also features a beer and wine garden for adults and a Kids' Korner, which offers special activities to keep children happy while their parents shop.
During warm weather, the Plaza's pop jet fountain provides a great cooling-off spot for youngsters who are welcome to wear their swim suits.
Admission to the market is free
"Upstream" was formed in Trinidad in the 1980s by brothers Haile and Dereck Blackman, sons of Ras Shorty I, the man responsible for bringing Soca music to the world. The group has opened for such well-known performers as REM, the Dave Mathews Band, and Jimmy Buffet.
The band will perform from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Fullerton Market is located in the Downtown Plaza on Wilshire Avenue, between Harbor Boulevard and Pomona Avenue, adjacent to the Fullerton Museum Center.
Parking for Fullerton Market may be found in any of the free downtown lots, or in the parking structures at Wilshire (enter from Harbor); Lemon Street and Chapman Avenue; and in the Transportation Center on Pomona and Santa Fe Avenue.
Visitors to Fullerton Market will also be able to tour the award-winning Fullerton Museum Center, which offers a special reduced admission rate of $2 per person from 4-8 p.m. on market days the first Thursday of every month.
Further information about Fullerton Market may be obtained by calling the Fullerton Museum Center at (714) 738-6545.
