Fullerton, Ca – The Fullerton Museum Center, in partnership with the All the Arts for all the Kids Foundation, is accepting applications for a special edition of its popular and innovative “Guitar Gateways” program at both Beechwood and Fisler Elementary Schools in Fullerton.

The program is designed for beginning and intermediate players in fifth through ninth grades.  Students will learn chords, note reading, and music history, with an emphasis on rock, folk and blues.  Fender acoustic guitars are available to use in class and at home.

There will be two sessions offered at each school. The Beechwood Elementary sessions will run from 3-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 8-Feb. 12, and Feb. 19-March 26. The school is located at 780 Beechwood Ave.  Participants do not have to attend Beechwood.

The program at Fisler Elementary will run from 3 – 5 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 28-March 11, and March 18 – April 29 (no class on April 8). The school is located at 1350 Starbuck Street. Participants do not have to attend Fender Elementary.

 “Students will learn how to play songs on a Fender acoustic guitar,” said Aimee Aul, education coordinator for the museum.  “They will perform in an end-of-session concert, create original art, learn from special guest presenters and much more.”

The classes will be taught by Aul and guitar instructor Eric Ray. Ray, who holds a master of music degree in classical guitar performance from the San Francisco Conservatory, teaches guitar and the history of rock and roll at Fullerton College. 

Tuition for the class is $120 per student, and includes a lesson book, art materials, use of a Fender acoustic nylon string guitar, and a one-year family membership to the Fullerton Museum Center.Registration and further information about “Guitar Gateways” may be obtained by calling the Fullerton Museum Center at (714) 738-6545. Fullerton Museum Center hours are noon-4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon – 8 p.m. Thursday.
