Over-the-counter medications: they must be safe to use, otherwise they wouldn't be on the market, right? Well, not really. While over-the-counter medications can be beneficial when used correctly, they can pose a serious health hazard if misused, either through over-use or when taken improperly with other medications.
To help people avoid the pitfalls of improper use of over-the-counter medications, the Fullerton Community Center will host a free seminar Wednesday, June 27, that will focus on the issue. The seminar, which will begin at 10 a.m., will help seniors, who spend an estimated $1 billion annually on over-the-counter drugs, learn more about how to wisely and safely use the medications. Discussion will include dissecting the OTC label, expirations, common OTC ingredients and potential interactions with prescription medications. The seminar is sponsored by CareMore Health Plan. Preregister to attend at (714)738-6305.
The Fullerton Community Center is temporarily located at St. Mary's Church, 400 W. Commonwealth Ave., during construction of a new community center. Further information may be obtained by calling the center at (714) 738-6305. Persons requiring special accommodations are asked to notify the center prior to June 27.
